It is good to be back, and boy have we missed a lot. We had the opportunity to speak with some our friends in white this evening and they seemed to have a lot to say. In the time we were away, Wishard has added not one, not two, but three new supervisors. If we got our facts straight, they are going to be running two on each of their day shifts, one on each of their night shifts, and one each on what is known as the Tac shifts.
Does this seem like overkill when you look at the number of trucks they are running? Maybe; maybe not. The addition of the additional supervisors has kicked the rumor mill into high gear. The most popular one suggests that the extra supervisors are in response to the upcoming addition of 48 additional employees. If you have trouble connecting the dots, 48 employees would be equal to the number of civilian trucks under IFD. You guessed it, Wishard is talking consolidation again, only this time with EMS going the other way.
Well, what do you think about that?

what i think about that is there's another good reason to work nights
IFD EMS has quite a few more employees than 48.
There are MORE than 48 employees in the ambulance division at IFD. That is only the number to staff the trucks with no extra subs/floats in place. And NO ONE at IFD has heard/said anything about any merger. Wishard can't even run the service they have, let alone acquire anyone else. What a dumb ass rumor to float around with NO FACTS to back it up.
That is bull crap, Ask Sanford
Fact #1) Wishard just added a bunch of supervisors. #2) IFD has screwed their budget for the year because of the EMS Division. #3) The Star talked in it's article about overtime that Wishard was slated to take it over before Bart lost, so there has to be some plan in place. #4) Wishard is already doing >90% of all EMS transports in the county. Adding a few more would be a piece of cake. #5) Look at it any way you want, Wishard Ambulance is making money. IFD EMS has cost IFD it's entire overtime budget for the year in a matter of 3 months.
Do I like it......that doesn't matter. Can I see it happening? Yes.
And how is Wishard making money? Oh that's right, by not paying OT and simply shutting down trucks, causing those trucks that are in service to run themselves in to the ground taking runs all over the place, response times be damned. The OT budget thing at IFD has ZERO to do with the EMS division and everything to do with the CCC which alloted a tiny amount of OT for the entire department. Besides, IFD couldn't budget for EMS overtime in Jan 07 when the merger with Warren didn't happen until July 07. Just because Wishard is doing a lot of runs doesn't mean they have any business taking care of things county-wide. So, once again I ask, just how is Wishard Ambulance making money? And your answer cannot include using shitty equipment, shutting down trucks, and not giving employees raises.
I think the rumor you are talking about has to do with supply issues. Yes we did hire 3 new supervisors. The only real answer will come in the form of a third service---not Wishard or IFD.
to june 24 @131 pm, You are an idiot, you have no idea what your talking about. The possibility of merging with wishard was shut down prior to the election. The budget was set in place by Peterson's admin, IFD has been underbudgeted prior to Mergers and EMS. The star was very wrong. The EMS Div had Ot Yes, but nothing like the firefighters, Who are paid more and make alot more in OT. Keep smoking your crack, and running your mouth about things you don't know anything about.

8:21 Wishard has been doing supply for the IFD trucks for quite a while now. It has nothing to do with supply.
Fact:
1. Wishard itself was banking on losing the ambulance service.Look at your replacement trucks or lack of them. They do not want the ambulance service. They want to dump it off.
2. WAS has the worst standard of care in the city. Even Rural Metro upgraded monitors to 12 leads.
3. WAS is using the worst equipment in the city.
4. WAS has no issues with long response times to the townships which is why they were kicked out of them. Also which is why Medic 71 is on its way out.
5. WAS employees are treated like crap. Noone wants people like this taking care of anyone they know.
6. WAS is not doing 90% of transports in the city. Its more like 60%. Lets be real also. How many of those are real transports?
7. Fact most WAS employee's are "passing though". Again we want solid professionals with a career path.
WAS has gone down the shitter for years now. Its a shame. It was a amazing group to be proud of. I think its time for it to die. Time to recreate something to be proud of. Take the best of both worlds and combine them.
I spoke personally with Chief Sanford today and there is absolutely ZERO truth to this wild ass rumor. In fact, IFD is hiring additional adminstrators for the EMS division and is getting ready to start a new process to hire up to 5 civilian paramedics.
12 lead or not, i would rather work for/be treated by wishard.
and p.s. rural/metro's trucks suck too.
WAS is not getting rid of M71. They just signed a new contract with Decatur. Due to the new airport being built Decatur has decided to keep M71 because it will be busier.
Decatur has no choice but to keep M71. Have you seen the so called "medics" they have working for them? With Chuck Valentine leading the way, I pray to God I never need them in a true emergency.
Yeah Im sure the WAS medics are so much better than decatur medics. That is where they send all their crippled and trouble making medics. Out to M71 where they could just hide out. I live in decatur, don't work there, but I would proudly call 9-1-1 and be happy with anyone of thier medics. Your just shit talking about things to hear yourself talk !!
anon. 6:26-
at least half of that comment was uncalled for, really.
Yeah...well why don't you tell the guy above my comment, the same thing.... Really ???? There is no reason to bash those decatur medics. They have been at my house for an emergency once, and they did a fine job, mostly calming me down from an apneic baby episode. None the less. If your gonna dish it out, then learn to take it back.
Ya calming you down, because they were scared s(&tless about taking care of an apneic infant. Be sure and ask the medic who got sent out to Warren pre-merger for additional training after she screwed up bad enough her cert almost got yanked. And what did Decatur do about it? Oh ya, they made her a Lt......NOW that's some SCARY STUFF!!!
i don't personally have a problem with, nor was i bashing the decatur medics. so don't put me in that group. thank you kindly.
i do however have respect for the wishard medics out there that you happen to be bashing.
Moke (spelling ?)...yeah he is about it, he is a good medic...kudos to him !! The rest of them, you can wipe your ass with them for all I care !! I worked at wiz for a long time, so your not gonna tell me anything about those people I don't allready know. Try again.
Anon. 10:47 ...they weren't scared shitless about anything. Like I said before, they did a great job. As far as the idiot/medic/lt. you are talking about. They prob. made her a lt. to ensure that she wouldn't ever work on an ambulance again....makes sense to me !! And I know about the situation your speaking of...your exaggerating that "almost lost her cert" thing !! You either DO or DON'T get a certification suspension. There is no almost to it. Get versed in this shit if your gonna speak up.
