Vests

Recently a couple of cameramen and a firefighter were shot at during a residence fire. We have heard that an EMS crew was standing right next to one of the injured cameramen at the time he was hit. The culprit claimed he was mad at the news because they didn't cover it when he was shot a couple of weeks before.
How many times have we been on the scene of a cardiac arrest, fatal shooting, or a domestic, and people started screaming at us.
How hard would it be to ambush an EMS crew? Call 911, make up some slight injury so you only get the B code response, then just wait for them to show up.
We hear that some of the inner city crews are floating the idea of vests. With the city sitting at 72 murders so far this year, what do you think? If you work in a bad area, would you wear one? Everyday if required? Do you believe the city has become violent enough to need this?

Stay Safe

A few years ago Wishard had employee shot in the ER at Wishard. It was an old crazy women with a gun in a bag. There was a uproar about vests. Wishard offered to buy them with one stipulation. You had to wear it every day. There were no takers.

Can't compare raincoats and body armour. ~$400 difference.

We dont have to wear our raincoats? Damn it...

Get real....WAS isn't going to front that kind of money. Keep your dumb asses away from the scene and let the cops be the police. I used to work for Wishard, I know you sorta feel like some sort of paramedic/cop/taxi/wagondriver. But DON'T thats not safe. Yes the occasional "normal" run could cause a catastrophe, but your chancesa aren't that bad. Jesus people we don't live in Gary Indiana. If you talk to your patients and treat them with respect they almost always give it back. Stop being wann-a-be/cop/dickheads. Or do like some have and join the police force, then you'll get your vest.

Thats probably why you "USED" to work for wishard. Maybe because you are in fact the dumb ass. I dont know of many medic trucks that go into unsecure scenes, I know I dont. But there have been on more than one occasion when we find ourselves in situations that are unsafe even with a bunch of officers on scene. It would be nice to have some sort of safety out there doing the job.

Watched a 24 and 13 year old get gunned down while sitting at an intersection waiting to turn a few weeks ago... Had the light been green instead of red the bullets would have gone straight through me and my partner instead of an indygo bus and the 13 year old. Was within 30 feet of another shooting at the white castle at 38th and keystone a month before that, and then had a shooting a block down from me while on another ambulance run a few days after that. You dont have to be the one their aiming at to be a victim, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I havent met a single victim that planned on being shot. CV

Ask Off. Fishburn how well his vest kept that bullet out of his brain. They(vests) will do nothing but provide a false sense of security to those wearing them.

Ask him how well it kept it out of his chest, ass...

I believe a false sense of security is better than nothing at all. Your chances of survival are increased having that vest on even with the fact that they could still shoot you in the head. And besides that, stupid... get your facts right. Fish was also shot in the chest and his vest sure as shit played a big role in saving his life. Get your facts straight before you go popping your mouth off.

false sense of security? ask an officer that took several to the chest and see what he says.

keep ahold of your hose...you're a target too.

Remind me again how many EMS/fire personnel have been shot in the line of duty in Indianapolis is say, the last 100 years? Answer....1. If you are that worried about it, go buy a vest. There is NO way Wishard will ever pay for it.

Body armour is only good if you wear it. Everyday. Ask about Officer Matt Faber. August 1988. It was really hot and he didn't have one on. He lived 9 days after being wounded in the back by a single shot shotgun. Had he had the vest on he could have gotten up and killed the fu@#er.
