The boys in white recently got a new man to run the show. Kevin Wilmouth has been in his new spot as WAS's Chief for a few weeks now and we are curious. Has there been any changes? Has anyone heard if he is planning any? How has the new boss been received by the troops? What is the overall concensus? Thumbs up or down?

What is this "boundary" policy?
Is that the "boundary" policy that says all the Wishard trucks hang out at Methodist and Wishard, then catch runs across town and tell dispatch where they're coming from? "In service away" means give us a run and we'll dump it on someone else.
the boundary policy basicly said that trucks should avoid going within a few blocks of the circle unless they are on a run
There were complaints from people downtown that don't want us around certain "center of the city" areas and using our sirens

you know you really dont have to be a dick. It must be nice to be able to take an hour out at the hospital dicking around. We have exactly 15 minutes to get everything done at the hospital and we have to mark in service. we dont have the luxury of waiting until were in our area. so yeah, sometimes we have to mark from a distance. that would suck real bad if you were the one waiting on the ambulance and it just so happens that were across town. I for one would want to have the closest ambulance if I really needed one. its not our fault that we have a small amount of time to drop the patient off, clean the truck, and do paperwork.
I see the same comment several times, and im assuming from the same bitter person, about Wishard marking in from a distance and "dumping" runs, or Wishard responding with this great "10 minute" response time debate. Get over it. If we didn't mark in until we returned to station the runs would still be turned just as much. Also there may be times when the response time is 10 mins, but thats far from the norm. When your trucks do 7-10 runs they aren't going to be available near as often as a truck that does 4 in 24hrs. You have to staff for the everyday run load, not the few exceptions.
Wishard does not even have the trucks for normal every day runload. Either put more trucks out or let IFD take over. Wishard is dead lets let it die.
Back to the subject, I think Kevin is doing an awesome job. I have gotten more information from him in the last few weeks than I have from Chuck since I started here. From past encounters with him, I believe he has some comon sense and enough street experience to know what it is like to do the job. He can lead through his knowledge and experience; not through fear and intimidation like some of those that have been put in charge. I think they made an excellent choice, and one that the poeple out there doing the job can respect.

Do you thing Health and Hospital Corp is going hand anyone all those ambulances for free? The city is bitching about budgets, I can't see them letting IFD get any more ambulances. Why would they even let IFD lease any ambulances. They are talkng about closing stations. Don't count Wishard gone and dead just yet.

HEY- Before you go popping your mouth off about stuff you have no idea what you are talking about make sure you can back it up. Wishard has several new trucks, and couple used, but very nice trucks to tide us over and get us back up to where we should be after the fire and some wrecks. Wishard has been around for a very long time and dont think because IFD bought themselves a couple ambulances and hired some people to staff half of them that they are taking over anything. IFD EMS will not last. It will be another thing that they end up finding out that they cannot handle. So go bite an ass.
IFD only started one ambulance service. That is the old Wash Twp. Warren gave them one...lock stock and barrel. In this budget conscious world how will IFD get a LOT more ambulances? You have any idea what a Zoll monitor costs? Do you really think Health and Hospital will just give the 23 or 24 trucks they have? Would the city lease them for IFD? I doubt it. The City County govt. would never have ok'd H&H spending the money to help buy and maintain the building at 3900 (granted some was paid with a grant) if the City govt. intended to let IFD take it all. I for one doubt it.
The CCC didn't have to approve anything. Even you yourself said it was a grant. Besides, H/H buget for 2008 was set last year. The CCC has NO control over how that money is spent. As to how IFD will get more ambulances...simple. They'll lease them from Horton or whoever, then use revenue to pay for them. And they won't half-ass replace them with crap like Wishard does. There is literally billions of dollars in grant money out there for fire depts that Wishard cannot get. And if you think IFD is just sitting by,not planning for future mergers, you are sadly mistaken. Once again, some ill-informed person, most likely a cocky 20 something kid from Wishard, claims to have all the answers when they really know nothing.
And you just sound like an innocent lil peach yourself, professor. Do you seriously have nothing better to do with your time then try to slam Wishard? Get a life.
It isn't necessarily a slam directed at Wishard as a whole, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at Wishard today vs. 10 years ago. It is not anywhere close to where it used to be. I was simply trying to correctly inform people about how IFD EMS is actually working, and put a stop to all these wild-ass rumors that get posted on this blog almost daily by people who have only heresay info and no facts to back up their ASSumptions.

I said PART of it was from the MESH grant.
You really don't beleive that H&H would spend any money( in an election year) without the previous Mayor's approval. What revenue? Urban EMS is a break even idea. IFD is going from closing stations like 26's and then start leasing ambulances from Horton? Bet the taxpayers in 26's and 34's area will love that idea. Oh yea, I was working at Wishard when "Once again, some ill-informed person, most likely a cocky 20 something kid from Wishard, claims to have all the answers when they really know nothing." was born.
I think the fact that they are leasing them, not buying them, says enough.
Honestly, I don't think that Wishard or IFD is going anywhere. I know there are assholes at Wishard but there are also assholes at IFD. IFD wants nothing to do with EMS just sit around a station and listen to them talk about having to take an ems run. Yes, i know I said sit, shocking isn't it. We both have jobs and a great majority is EMS so what is so hard about doing your job. We both provide the same service and we are going to have to learn to work together and lose these pompous attitudes it makes you both look stupid and ignorant.
At Wishard, I don't believe anything will change until Chuck Ford is gone. Eventhough, Wilmouth is now somewhat in charge Chuck has the final say so and we know what he normally does, nothing. The thing that has changed at wishard is how it takes care of its employees or the lack thereof. As a result, the only people wishard can afford to hire is less than average paramedics with poor attitudes and work ethics because they don't mind getting s%&t on. All the good people at Wishard are leaving and unless something is done soon wishard will be in serious trouble.
But back to the main argument. Lets set our differences aside and learn to work together and be part of a solution instead of adding fuel to the fire. Because honeslty the pissing match can go both ways. Unless you have been on the other side of the fence you can only merely speculate.
We are here to serve the public, no matter what uniform we wear. We need to do that with caring and compassion to the best of our abilities. We are all EMS providers, firefighter, EMT, Paramedic, all here with one purpose, to serve the citizens.
As for the question if Health and Hospital will give the ambulances away, remember they are supported by the taxpayers and hence will do what those that govern say they shall do. By the way the issue about IFD leasing ambulances is not true, they purchased the last one. Who will control EMS in Indianapolis, the citizens, the ones who pay our wages.
Get over it, we will probably all wear the same shirt someday, so stopping the infighting now would be what is in the best interest of all. We need to work together for those that we serve.
