D-Day 3/31

What happens to Wishard EMS as of 3/31/09?
Here is the way we got it. About a year and a half to two years ago, Wishard started asking its Paramedics to sign a request to have their certification dates changed to the same date. March 31st. They were also told that Wishard would be doing away with the Paramedic Refresher classes. Not to worry, they said, all EMS education would be done on duty from that point on. To date, from what we’ve been told, they have provided protocol review, some audit & reviews, a few hours of trauma, and ACLS. Whenever anyone would ask about it, they were told “Education is working on it.”
Now, fast forward to a couple of months ago. All employees are handed copies of the IEMS Paramedic Program schedule and told that they would need to get their education on their own. Nothing like 10 months notice to get 2 years of education.
Who dropped the ball here? Education was counted on to provide the in-service and management let them drop the refresher program before they had a new plan in place.
So, we ask again: What happens to Wishard EMS as of 3/31/09?

Stay Safe
Dee

This is so true and it is sad that education is getting paid to refresh wishard employees except they are busy teaching classes at other places (IUPUI, Ivy Tech) They don't have time for the employees of Wishard. Some of the educators have stated to the Wishard employees good luck getting your hours and its not their problem. It is going to be scary for all of those depending on the hours on duty.

On top of all that, for the last year and a half or so, the Methodist audit & reviews could not be counted by Wishard ambulance employees. Seems as though Dr. Olinger got into a pissing contest with Barkus over at MTH and made the medics suffer for it. Shows you what a stand up guy Dr. O is. He is willing to sacrifice every Wishard paramedic just to prove a point.

Dee,
I think some of your facts are wrong. I, as a Wishard employee, have not found all of the educators to be that bad. It turns out that if you approach them with a good attitude and questions, that a couple of them will help you find answers I have seen some of them go out of their way to help people get hours and skills checked off before books get turned in. I have also seen the same eductor that chased me across the city to knock out skills tell employees that it is not their problem. That may have something to do with that employee came up attacking the educator, using them as a whipping post for all of that medics problems personally and with wishard, and demanding that they do something now to fix it all. That educator may have been working a shift with a student at time or doing some training with a different group and I can't blame him for answering that way.
Granted there are some educators that are impossible to find or get calls back from. There are some that will help you out and deserve some respect or at least encourgement as I see them being pulled under by the system and complaints.
I am also happy to get invites from the educators to help out in class and labs. I wish I could be paid but hours are hours. I also know that the management limits what on duty crews can do. Some managers get trucks out for education and some don't.
Remember your Medusa hours count too, even if we never use it.

The comment stating that the educator blew him/her off came from a comment. If our facts are wrong we will do our best to correct them. What is factually wrong with the initial post?

The web based system is almost in place. All inservice for Wishard employees can be done online, on or off duty. This should be up in a week or two.

I am a Wishard employee. There is a web based system in the works? Hey, thanks for sharing. Another fine example of the communication skills of our management and education staff. Is there some reason you have been keeping it a secret?
I also happend to be at the Methodist A&R last week and I heard that, according to Dr B, Methodist A&R's will be accepted by Wishard again. Anybody else heard that? Either way, new week, new rules, thats the Wishard way.
