Hey, Friday is finally here! Not that many of us do that whole Mon-Fri thing. We just want to take this time to wrap up a few loose ends and get ready to start a new week bright eyed and fresh.
We got an email from "Tom", I think he is the Medusa rep for Wishard from the tone of the email. Tom, we stand corrected. Wishard is going live with Siren on April 7th, not 4th as I had reported. "Tom" says that they are aware there are going to be problems and is ready to tackle them.
Has everyone been over the new Marion County Protocols? What do you think? Right direction? Wrong direction? Anyone want to weigh in on this? Anyone heard when each group is going to them?
Not our realm really, but keep an eye on the out of state search for a new IFD chief. If he/she comes from a department that has successfully merged fire/ems, or has a long track record of fire/ems, this could give you an idea of which way the mayor is leaning on our future.
Stay safe and keep doing what you do.
Dee

The "Tom" you are referring to is Tom Arkins, CQI(quality control, etc) person at Wishard. He has taken on MORE than his fair share of the work load when it comes to the medusa nightmare.
Update: As usual something messed up is bound to happen. guess the admin and others werent being serious when coming up with this whole idea. they arent ready and we are being pushed back. We will not be going live on monday, and we have no update or idea of when it will happen.
Dee... I finaly got bored and opened the new protocol book up.. I see some good things comming out of it, but am I the only one who sees the medical directors restricting us more and more every year? I mean if you get bored some time, look on the internet at protocols from arround the country. We are ahead of some, but others are so progressive that we almost look like basic first responders. Heck... look up north of Indy.. The brotocols for Riverview are 100 times better than Marion County. I understand and emphathize with the medical directors being a little standoff-ish with protocols since their lisence is on the line. But think of this... If you allow us to use our brains and training that we have and there is an issue with certain individuals, WHY take away from those of us who CAN do them. It's more of an education issue. This will also weed out those medics who have NO reason to be in this business. Weed out the bad ones, and allow the good ones to do what they do best. If you look back 10 -15 years here in Marion County you can see a drastic withdraw of medicines and skills Indy medics can do. Remamber "with time comes progress". They tend to find 1 or 2 little changes and play them up so much it drowns out the other changes. I mean come on.. we are all trained professionals with a passion of our profession... let us do what we were ment to do.
What has been taken away that was helpful for our patients?
Why take away lido and give amio, why not keep them both on the truck. Its like taking tools out of a tool box and not putting them back....why not have as many tools as you can to work with
